I am now also posting regularly on another page of CoCo's, here: http://cococlub.hiho.jp/nk/cocodiary.cgi Mostly, this week you can read about improvements we have made to the club in the past month or two. Also, of course, the NEW Chat Pass (a 40-hour chat pass that is good for 3 months. Please use up to 10 hours a week!) We opened up the main room a little more by taking out walls. As a result, many more customers can fit comfortably at the club! If you have not been to Nishi Nippori in a while, please check us out!

More first timers

Last night, we were so happy to meet several first-time customers to CoCos! I am so happy about that. It means our message is getting out, that Coco's is the place to be for 英会話　in 東京！ I think November is a record for our small firm, in the number of new people who joined the chat table. In part, this may be due to our lowered prices: 750 yen for the first hour, and 375 each additional hour. Previous chatpass holders 375 yen an hour on a revisit, up to 12 hours a week. The NEW chat pass, when you are ready to buy it: 12,500 yen for a 40-hour chat pass. Good for three months. Meaning: we offer you a full three months to visit us 40 hours. If you do 10 hours a week, the chat pass is done in 4 weeks. If you visit us just 3 hours, then sometime around 3 months (13+ weeks), it is finished. That is a great deal for most of our regulars, and for many of our new friends. It works out to just 312 yen an hour! I do a number of private lessons now, but of course have some time to hang out at the chat table. If you stop by CoCo's, please make sure to say "hi" to me, or the other native-English speaker staff. It is back, officially. It is a 40-hour chat pass, good for three months. 12,500 yen. Maximum 10 hours a week---we might fudge that maximum though and go higher, but it is a 40-hour chat pass. Still, I think, one of the cheapest, if NOT the cheapest in 東京for 英会話。 Additionally, we are always seeing and welcoming NEW guests to Cocos in the past few weeks. I have been busy with some private lessons, but also get to join the chat table for a while. And we are hearing a lot more from our several chat hosts. Speaking of private lessons, why don't you consider it? Especially if you are struggling to learn English. Or don't feel you are getting the attention you want from a larger English school? I will be able to teach everything from basic level English, to professional level. Also, I am a certified public accountant in New Jersey---so I can teach accounting for tests like BATIC. The CoCo Club continues to change. Over the weekend, the boss brought in a carpenter to take out the side walls and open up the main room. This way we can have more guests. And especially for parties, this will be very good, because it always got crowded!

"Chat Pass" coming back?

I have some news for those of you who loved our Coco's "Chat Pass". Despite my protests, the boss, Mr. Fujimoto, wants the chat pass back! Readers here remember, that I was not in favor of it, but rather just wanted the lower price per visit ("Friends, guests, beginners, etc."). That new low rate, 750 yen for the first hour, and 375 each additional hour, has been very popular. I think last week was a record, for the number of different people who came to Coco's. We saw many different faces. People enjoyed themselves, and stayed a long time. So here is how the NEW chat pass will work: It will be a 40-hour chat pass. The cost will be about 12,500 yen. We ask that you limit usage of the pass to 10 hours a week. (Maybe we can fudge this number a little, but the idea of the offer is to let as many people come and enjoy Coco's as possible.) When you buy the NEW chat pass, however, it will be good for THREE months. So 12,500 yen, 40 hours over three months. Of course, if you use up 40 hours sooner, you can buy another new chat pass. But if you like to visit us just a few hours a week, say, you can enjoy your chat pass for THREE months. We very much want to see our friends at Coco's. And welcome the new people, too. So the 750 yen/ 375 yen program will still be there as well! There are many ways to save at Cocos! ため方いろいろ！　ココス英会話クラブ！

Coco's Party

Tonight's party, I hope, was enjoyed by many people! Once again, Naoko-san provided us with much delicious food. Noboru Maki and Noko Suzuki were the performing artists tonight, with "Comical Chat and Musical Saw." Mr. Suzuki's musical saw was perhaps the most mesmerizing time of the evening. It sounds like spirits from another world. Most all of our weekly chat hosts were there, and even if it felt a little crowded, it was sad to end at 11 o'clock. Won't you join us for our next party, November 26?

The main way that English is different from Japanese is that we have so many sounds. In English, by one count, there are 2,756 different sounds---compared to about 70 in Japanese. That is maybe the bad news. But the good news is, once you master the 3,000-or-so sounds, most all of these are their own words. And if you speak English, using just one-sound words, you will do just fine. Here, I will try it: I will say things, where each word is just one sound. Since we have lots of them in our speech, it can be done. Hard, but it can be done. See? Many times folks want to learn the hard or long words. But they are not as good as the plain ones. The ones that, all who hear them, know. Just plain talk.

We had a great party again last Saturday night, Coco's annual Halloween Party. With musical guests, Asami Yasujiro and Tomii Seiji, we were treated to some Mississippi style harmonica and guitar playing. The performers were excellent, and we are humbled to have had them play at Coco's. The encore itself was its own wonderful performance. The list of clients for private and semi-private lessons is steadily expanding at Coco's. I am doing my best, and I hope that we do not hit capacity before the end of the year. The chat pass system of course has ended. But at the chat table, we are finding a lot of success with our "friends, beginners and other guests" policy of 750 yen for the first hour, and 375 for each additional hour---up to twelve hours in one week. So you would pay 750 only one day of the week you come. If you come back in that week, it's 375 yen up to twelve hours total visit in the week. Many people love Coco's, and so I continue to hope you will be with us during these pricing changes. In the end, they should provide for more variety in the club (ability to meet more and more English learners), and a fairer pricing structure---where everyone is paying about the same per hour. Right now, we have a few people who bought a 2-months chat pass (Old price: 15000 yen). And of these few, after a few weeks, we don't hear from them anymore. They are our valued customers and friends, So we want you to come to Coco's, and maybe the new pricing structure will work. I want to give as much information to our valued friends as possible. This way, you are in the loop as we make important changes. It beats hanging out behind the back of Cocos and eavesdropping on after-hours meetings!
