Kahm sa hahm ni da!  (I think that is "arigatou" in Korean.)

I am happy you think our new system is good.   Many people do.

I was at Hiragana Times Party for part of tonight, and the people I spoke with, felt it was a very fair deal.   It works out very well for people who just want to stop by CoCos for a couple hours, one night a week.

They have other commitments, and so they cannot be there five hours a day, five days a week.

Where ever Andy ends up teaching on his return here, hopefully your group would like to spend an evening at Coco's once a week.

it would be so nice to see our dozens of friends again----those who liked to hang out for an hour or two, once or twice a week, and enjoy CoCos.  Our friends.

You're welcome!

I just want to thank some people publically, who appreciate the new 750 yen and 375 yen program.

They never bought a chat pass, because they are not at CoCos a long time in the week (they have lives that demand their attention to other people and locations).

For them, it USED to be 1000 yen first hour, 500 yen each additional hour.

With our discount for:

1)  new customers(!)
2)  beginners
3)  former chat pass holders
4)  former customers
5)  loyal customers

we are offering, as a promotion, 750 yen for the first hour and 375 yen each additonal hour up to 12 in one week.   For most of our chat pass holders, and for new and old customers, this is very much a better deal than the old chat pass!

So thank you those who support us!   We thank you with what we hope you feel is a good deal, and appreciate your support!

columns off

 投稿者:Rick G.  投稿日:2005年10月28日(金)02時58分34秒
Unfortunately, the column titles are off in this Teacup.com service.

The first column is the price per hour, with Mr. Fujimoto's discount.

The second column is the running total, for hours attended at CoCo's, with Mr. Fujimoto's discount on the first twelve hours in a week.

Third column is the equivalent price for a chat pass.  You will notice, if you attend CoCo's for a few hours a week, it is actually cheaper than the old system---you save even more money.

The fourth column is the (savings) or added expense under the new system.   We ask you to consider, what CoCo's is worth to you, when you think about this change.

The final column is the savings versus the old ONE month chat pass.   Again, if you are thinking of leaving us, we ask you to reconsider.   For many people, the new pricing structure is actually a SAVINGS.  And enables you to meet and listen to EVEN MORE people than the recent pricing structure.

Under the recent structure, you may end up listening to the same people AGAIN AND AGAIN, every day, over a five-day business week.   Is that what you really want?   Is that what you want to pay your hard-earned money for?

Or rather, to have some variety?   That is one reason, why we introduced the new system.

New Discount

 投稿者:Rick G.  投稿日:2005年10月28日(金)02時44分18秒
It looks like Coco's discount will be about 25%, for 12 hours a week.   So new customers, current chat pass holders, beginners, etc., will be able to continue to attend CoCo's economically.    I have done a chart showing the figures.

cost cost cost difference
each hour per week per month from 1 month
(approx) chat pass (savings)

1 750 750 3,250 (4,250) (6,750)
2 375 1125 4,875 (2,625) (5,125)
3 375 1500 6,500 (1,000) (3,500)
4 375 1875 8,125 625 (1,875)
5 375 2250 9,750 2,250 (250)
6 375 2625 11,375 3,875 1,375

18 1000 10875 47,125 39,625 37,125
19 1000 11875 51,458 43,958 41,458
20 1000 12875 55,791 48,291 45,791
21 1000 13875 60,125 52,625 50,125

23 1000 15875 68,791 61,291 58,791
24 1000 16875 73,124 65,624 63,124
25 1000 17875 77,458 69,958 67,458
26 1000 18875 81,791 74,291 71,791
27 1000 19875 86,124 78,624 76,124

Granted, if you wanted to stay all week long (27 hours), it's going to get very expensive.   But why would you do that anyway?   And shouldn't you compensate us, for all the time taken?

The one or two protesters of the new form, it sounds like you just wanted to sit there all week for virtually nothing.   Is that really a customer?   It makes me wonder.

For many, many people, the newer system, with the discount, works out to a savings.   And it invites EVEN MORE, different, people into the CoCo's community.   Maybe even those, who did not get a chance to speak before.

So please give the new system a chance before you pan it.

Ech! Where complaining gets you.

If I understand correctly, a very small number of people objected to changes in our chat pass system.

They felt there should not be any changes at all --- especially not without consultation of them.

As a result, it is very likely that the chat pass system will be discontinued, upon renewal.   There will be no more discount at CoCo's.

The current prices are 1000 yen for the first hour, and 500 yen for each additional hour.

So it sounds from management, like this is what it will be, once your chat pass expires.

Sorry.

follow up on changes

 投稿者:Rick G.  投稿日:2005年10月25日(火)10時25分26秒
I received generally positive feedback about Coco's new policy.

As I understand from the owner, the 12-hour policy must be in effect starting this week.

A couple of customers have said, that since they had bought or renewed a chat pass under the assumption that they could attend CoCos for the entire 25 or 30 hours a week that we are open, this rule has created a problem for them.

My understanding of the law in Japan, is that these type situations call for a REFUND.

Since it is critical that Cocos can make changes, I will be happy to PERSONALLY refund, pro rata, anyone who is disadvantaged by the new rule--from my own money.   (Even though, I am NOT currently being paid by CoCos.)

In that deal, however, I must insist that your end of the bargain be that anyone taking the offer NEVER attend Cocos anymore, or interfere with our business among the appreciative customers and hardworking staff.

I again want to point out that Cocos is remarkably inexpensive a place to learn or practice English.   That is our mission.

For example, we currently provide a paid native English speaker.   The CoCo's website advertises an opening at 1300 yen an hour.   At five hours a night, that's 6500 yen.  Over 23 business days of a typical month, 149,500 yen.  Let's make it 150,000 yen.

Even if the chat room reached a capacity of, say 12 people all night long, the charge to cover that native speaker is 150,000/12 = 12,500 yen per visitor, per month.

(And you won't have a chat room in this example, because we are just talking about the native speaker.   Not the rent to sit him/her somewhere.)

12,500 yen a month chat pass, just to pay for the native speaker provided.

And you better elbow your way in and out-shout the other partiticants, because, after all, your the customer!   But, if any of the OTHER 11 chat CUSTOMERS don't feel like they're getting a deal---after all, 12 people means you only each get 5 minutes back-and-forth face time in an hour, and they're customers too!  They may leave.  Then you have to come up with the 150,000 in monthly salaries from an even smaller pool!

Maybe 6 people, who each get ten minutes each during the hour.

Now that chat pass becomes 25,000 a month.

See?   Even under the new policy, CoCos as a chat lounge is remarkably cheap.

After last night, my own feeling is maybe the owner should JUST go with CoCo's more popular (and also reasonably priced) private and semi-private lessons . . .
